I was never much of a cherry fan. Cherry pie, chocolate covered cherries, cherry cake - no siree. But one bright and sunny day, my mother-in-law joined me for a ride to the market to pick up ice cream for a 4th of July movie night. She insisted we try her favorite ice cream, Cherry Garcia, by Ben and Jerry's. I hemmed and hawed, then politely put the ice cream in the basket (I was secretly dreaming of my old standby - mint chocolate chip).
That night, as we watched Will Smith save the world from hostile aliens, my cold cherry heart turned warm. One scoop led to three. I had a complete cherry turnover. I was in love.
I have since tried my hand at making homemade cherry ice cream. Nothing beats homemade ice cream! And, since we are upon the anniversary of my cherry transformation, I'd like to share my favorite recipe with you. Full of natural, fresh goodness, this recipe will surely convert you, too. Just right click, print and add to your recipe box and have yourself a Cheery Independence Day!
